Aviva Open 110609

Its Rd of 16 today at Aviva Open... The day starts at 2.oopm
There's quite afew highly anticipated matches today...

1) Danny Bawa / Yao Lei [Sin] vs Sudket Prapakamol / Saralee Thoungthongkam [Tha]
17-21, 9-21

This match results is already known, with such strong thai opponents, how does singapore stand a chance? First game is a warm up, 2nd game is a thrashing... Danny and Yao Lei totally unable to return the smashes the Sudket throws at them.... He's 1 damn powerful smasher...

2) Nova Widianto / Liliyana Natsir [Ina] vs Anthony Clark / Donna Kellogg [Eng]
21-18, 21-11

Nova Widianto, seeded no.1 mixed double player, together with natsir, they are 1 of the world's best team, consider Clark and Kellogg sway for meeting them so early, but i dun feel sorry for them coz Kellogg has zero sportsmanship... if anyone remembers aviva 2008, kellogg was losing, she tried so many stuns and pattern to show her annoyance, she was awarded a yellow card... I didn't even know badminton got yellow card till last year... I'm glad the Indon duo killed them off...

Nova and Natsir

Clark and Kellogg, look at kellogg's haughty face...

3) Zhou Mi [Hkg] vs Juliane Schenk [Ger]
21-14, 21-17

Zhou Mi, a long time well known female player, as usual with her slow and lazy movements, but gd strokes won Juliane... But this win was lucky that Juliane is not a strong player, she misses alot of chances to kill Zhou Mi off in several occasions. Lets see if Zhou Mi has better luck tomolo. Btw Zhou Mi really needs to start watching her diet...

4) Wang Lin [Chn] vs Hwang Hye Youn [Kor]
21-10, 21-10

Wang Lin, a new face in the china lineup... She's currently seeded no.3 in aviva open... watched her play and she's quite gd... With Zhang Ning (Ex china top female players) coaching her and giving her pointers, Wang Lin has great potential... Hwang has no chance against her at all...

5) Boonsak Ponsana [Tha] vs Simon Santoso [Ina]
21-11, 21-7

A rematch from aviva open 2008, this pair meets once again, with Simon winning Boonsak last year, this year it is payback time... Boonsak played well today, taking both games effortlessly, on the other hand Simon wasn't doin too well today... Maybe boonsak was training juz for revenge... keke

6) Ai Goto [Jpn] vs Xie Xing Fang [Chn]
19-21, 14-21

1st game was a tight game between Ai and Xie, Ai showed great effort, trying for every shot to the extend of performing spilts on various occasions, she recovered from the spilts incredibly fast, she earns the crowd's respect for her never say die attitude, Xie on the other hand didn't seemed really interest in the first game hence the score 19-21, Xie played better in the 2nd game... world top players really seemed arrogant.

Some pics of Xie Xing Fang

7) Xing Aiying [Sin] vs Wang Yihan [Chn]
16-21, 21-8, 7-21

Xing Aiying, singapore's favourite player... Played against china's newcomer Wang Yihan, Xing played well against Wang and lost marginally in the first game. Xing thrashed Wang in the 2nd game, giving hope to singaporeans that there might be a chance Xing might win the match, I sms ambert to tell him Xing thrashed Wang, only to know that wang was the one that won the Danish monster Tina Rassmussen... I sian liao... True enough, Xing lost badly to Wang in the 3rd game, so it might be a cat and mouse game for Wang since the start... But well done Xing Aiying!! Wang is also coached by Zhang Ning... Seems like Zhang Ning is taking charge of all the new female players of china and they are all doing quite well...

Zhang Ning...

Some miscellaneous pics...
Notice this kawaii jap babe - Reiko Shiota, i think she's out liao, never see her today... so sad... look so sweet...

Kunchala Voravichitchaikul, my fav thai female player, from far she looks great.. haha, seemed to put on some weight this year...

The best dressed ladies of the days... hehe

And lastly, my favourite Malaysia men's doubles team:
Chan Choon Ming / Chew Choon Eng, i love watching them play, no matter how tough the game, they are always light hearted and smiling at 1 another... great guys.

Aviva Open 100609

At Aviva open (Rd of 32) now at the indoors stadium... today's matches abit boring, as per always, first day mah...
Was thinking of doing a little shopping at the yonex booth, but this year's sponsor changed... its a Li-Ning booth instead... another new china brand, seems like it endorsed quite afew china big players like Lin Dan, Xie Xingfang, Chen Jin, and so on... The booth is alot smaller than what what yonex had last year.. i guess no market.
Even the snack bar was pathetic... small with little food items and its atrociously priced.. 1 hotdog/burger at $8!!
Arrived around 3pm, look at the results... OMG!! The results of women's singles stunned me...

Wong Mew Choo - Out
Wang Chen - Out

WTF!! All gd women players out?? Quite alot of new faces leh... Or isit i never follow so outdated liao... It will be women's doubles later, dunno if china will send their "boys" team to play against the ladies...

Some regular faces amongst the spectators too... The unforgettable auntie that goes on supporting all china's opponent verbally nonstop, she has the ability to turn the whole section ard her to support china juz to oppose her... is that a superpower? FUCKING IRRITATING!!!!

Men's singles featuring Lee Chong Wei.

Singapore's Xing Ai Ying won beautifully

1 of my fav... Kunchala from thailand... but i think she out on some weight liao... the girl on the left in blue...

On leave...

Monday, the first day of a happy week... coz i'm on leave!! Took a whole week leave juz to watch Aviva Open... And swee swee this week no sailing.... This morning was outside sports for my vrew at WCP, juz to tekan the ippt failures....

Meet up at WCP Mac at 0830H, went for a 4.7km run... no one stopped to walk, all completed the run, which is gd... but Don really deteriorate alot... running dun use to be his weakness, but now it has become one... in juz afew months, his belly grew, fitness degraded ridiculously, now can only do 1 chin up.... almost died doing 5 sets of 20 push ups... Well, i guess we would be going back to the days that we start forcing ppl to do long runs after work, push ups during breaks.

I told Don, you can hate me, but still muz do... i dun care... Its all for his own gd...

After 3 days at sea, really felt bad for not doing any training at all... so yesterday run, this morning run, juz now gym... i think i will be running tomolo oso, to make up for loss time... but nabei, waist so hard to lose... @#$%^&* who designed fats to be stored there... store there nevermind still so hard to get rid... knn....

This year no mid year bonus... sibeh sian... plans all warped liao... there goes my cf bonnet, 3-way upgrade, throttlebody... not that 1'm doing all, juz possibilities... but bo liao... need to think of alternative liao... who allergic to money?? Pass to me... I'm your fren...

Sundown Marathon!!

Finally came back from sundown... torturing man, running marathons, now left me with overused legs which cannot perform daily tasks properly... haha. But the sense of acheivement... Priceless!! I'm a marathoner now... keke

We met up 6.30pm at whitesands for early dinner so we got ample time to digest. BUT, as usual... punctuality isn't a virtue among my friends... so by the time we meet, its already 7.30pm. Who were there? Aston, OMP, Zongren, Mingkiat, Muzhong and me... We needed moltivation for the gruelling run later so we went Lerk Thai for dinner. (YES!! Thai food!! Crazy rite... not scare lau sai... dun care) Paul who was suppose to join us is fucking late as usual... reached almost ard 9pm... sorry, gotta eat by himself coz we were almost done. After dinner, the rest of the gang joined us so we could all take the shuttle bus in.... Leonard, Weiye and a fren, Siswi and qiming, Weesen, Marcus... Total 14 of us...

We took the bus, feeling on the bus is juz like going to book in to tekong during bmt... same route.. haha, nostlagic... I have never seen changi Village so crowded... so much crazy ppl joining marathon, singapore nuthin to play liao... so all turn to self torture... haha. The place is chaotic partly due to the reason its at night, ppl couldn't really find 1 another... As we waited for the kick off, psychotic ultramarathoners were streaming in for their 2nd round... fast...

Here's a pic of us before race starts.

We proceed to the start off point, fast runners in front, slow runners behind, we juz lined almost near the end of the q, no point squeezing infront, coz timing oni starts when we cross the starting gantry. When the run was kicked off, it took us a whole 4 mins to reach the starting gantry, can you imagine how much siao kias? Initially i ran with weesen, but soon he pulled away, too early for that... then OMP came up and we ran together, gd pace, gd progress, and i thought this marathon would be very gd timing if we maintained this pace. For the first 10km, it was humid and warm, plus its 12am, i was getting sleepy, vision was dizzy with all the thousands of heads popping up and down in front of me, but dun care, juz go through motion, juz run... It was all doin gd till the 20km point where both me and OMP experience cramps on the thigh together... WTF!!! 20km!!! Can you believe it?? Nabei, kan sian... We pulled up along the side to stretch... Wasn't much use, there's no time for recovery at all... Dunno isit due to the fact we never do warm ups and stretches before the run, but i never had the habit of stretch before any run... sway lah...

22km more to finishing line and we are handicapped... Nevermind, we change tactic.. we walked fast till the cramp gets better then we started running till it cramps again then we stop to stretch, walk till it gets better then run till it cramps again... Leonard caught up with us then... told me to eat my powergel, it might help, well i thought, why not try since i oso never eat before... i juz reach out for any 1 packet with me(i had 3 different flavours, chocolate, orange and strawberry banana) opened it up and start eating... wah lau... taste horrible... phui!! manage to force half packet down my throat and its was my best flavour - orange... I will never take the other 2 packets liao.... Didn't help for my cramps... told leonard to go ahead, after a while OMP's cramp worsen, i went ahead oso... i looked at my watch, and it was at the 25km mark... 17km more, i calculated that if i can do every km below 10 mins, i'm still in gd time to come in below 6Hours... so change of tactics... I ran till cramp, skipped the stretchings, immediately quick walk, first few minutes sure limping due to the cramp but dun care... pressed on, walk till the cramp got better, then ran till cramp again while keeping a tight watch out for the timings... drank up at every water station. Each km seemed so much further than what i perceive 1 km would be... haiz...
Continued using the tactic till the end of the race, finally at the last 500m, i gave my all burst in... then... kana snooked... wah lan eh... there's a detour of 300 meter to the finishing point.... @#$%^& my legs max liao... stop to walk abit more... coz thats the lifespan of my legs before the cramps took over... walked ard 150m then burst again, finally finshed the damn marathon... collected finisher tee and finisher medal immediately after finishing point... *Muacks Muacks*

This is what they looked like.

Found a gd spot near the finishing to look out for the others... As we waited for the rest to come in, we were wowing at the ultramarathoners coming in at the 13th hour, 14th hour... there are several uncles in their fifties... psycho man... 50 plus still join ultramarathon?! Respect man...
Saw eric, raymond and eden at the finishing as they came in... crazy eden's shoe's sole both detached during 20km point and he ran barefooted for the next 22km... crazy man!!! You shd haf seen his feet... tattered socks and all... wah lau... we were all like: "WAH!!! YOU RAN BAREFOOTED AH??? SIAO AH!!!" Respect him for the spirit too...

Distance: 42km
Timing:
Leonard - 5:39:39
Me - 5:44:28
OMP - 5:57:36
Qiming - 6:10:45
Siswi - 6:17:59
Muzhong - 6:25:42
Weesen - 6:56:35
Mingkiat - 7:25:45
Josephine - 7:29:41
Aston - 7:39:39
Paul - 8:51:25
Zongren - 9:07:03

Weiye fall out halfway, wasn't in gd condition from the start, got breathing difficulties during the run, marcus fell out, bad joint till unable to finish the run as well... But i really gotta respect Paul and zongren, for running that amt of time... its not easy man... imagine cardio non stop for 9Hours... scary...

This is us after the run...
