My New Recruit

Went queensway today with Sen and val and bought my wife a new pair of running shoes. Always wanted her to start running for various reasons, keep fit, toning, company etc etc...
She already has a pair of quite new adidas lying at home now, but becoz i want her to run regularly, i didn't feel the adidas would be serving the function well. It look more of an all purpose not here nor there shoe. So i haf wanted to get her a proper pair.
Becoz she would mainly start off running in the range of 2km +-, so i was thinking getting something entry level that can do the job and upgrade accordingly to her progress. Shopped around, tried Saucony, New Balance, Adidas, none fit the bill, you know gals, design is very impt. (Not only for them, applies to me too.)
Finally Asics caught her eye. Colour was girly enough, fit was gd... Val bought an identical pair too. (Actually main mission we went down was to make val buy a pair too, to facilitate sen forcing her to start running to... hehe)
BUT! this kuku pair so shoes more expensive than my pair of asics. Buay tahan... Kuku name summore - GT 2130. Wat kinda name is that compared to mine - Speedstar 3. Still cost more.....

Heres the pic of her GT 2130.

After buying new shoes sure morale high, haha... human nature. So off we go for her first run in her first pair of proper running shoes once we got home.

Wifey ran - 2.5km
I ran - 7.2km

Nevermind, at least its a start, everything is planned for... will increase her mileage over time... kekeke.

ps: OMP if you are reading this, dun think you can escape.

Weekly Run update

Its our weekly run again...
This time most of my running kakis couldn't make it, that explains the turnout.
BUT we had 2 new additions to our group - Welcome Melvin and Don.

I and Mingkiat brought them to queensway earlier in the day to encourage them to buy a proper pair of running shoes that can in turn encourage them to start running regularly. See, youngster nowadays, muz be materially enhanced in order to keep fit... Hahaha

Well since its Don and Melvin's first run with us, we ran 8km, a fresh 8km route for them. I'm glad everyone completed the run as always and i hope this will not be Don and melvin's only run with us...

Distance: 8km
Time: 45mins

Seated: L to R, Melvin, Don, Me, Paul... Behind: OMP!!!

long 11km

Simply had the urge to run today and today seemed the only day this week to permit a long run.
Everyone else can't seem to make it, siswi, paul, mingkiat, aston, roy, leonard all occupied with work or otherwise. But my urge is strong and shall not be wavered. SO i FORCED OMP to run... HAHAHA.

We started the run at 1900H sharp, set our pace and started off... all was well till we came junction and turn left to the Village center and hit the '99 bends', This is where the beginning of the tough part came in... from this point till home was like 65% gentle and long upslope, 25% downslope (which we couldn't take advantage of due to abused kneecaps) and the last 10% of flats...

This route seemed endless, even the hardy OMP was commenting that we seemed to ran for ages, "how far more"... As we ran, my mind started wandering towards all the negative running events that i've done, like the RSN 800m (couldn't warm down after that run), Interval running training cheepeng, don and melvin (i HATE interval training, at the track summore). All that came to my mind were discouraging thoughts... haha. But no, no giving up allowed. Not even the thought of it.

After the run, it was immediate aching cuffs, thighs and painful kneecaps. But it was gd training. I will run this track again juz to bring paul, siswi, mingkiat to experience it. Especially Mr Paul... keep requesting to up level rite.... try this !!

Distance: 11km
Time completed: 1hr 06 mins

Ah Siao

There's this tyre shop along jalan jurong kechil, for those who knew, the boss was known as ' ah siao', famous for the ridiculously low prices he could offer.
Desmond was thinking of changing rims so we went to experience this 'ah siao' that we heard so much about.

We drop by a couple of tyre shops b4 we went to ah siao to haf a feel of the market rate.
Conclusion: 16" taiwan rim - approx $150 each excluding tyres.

So armed with the prevailing market rates, ah siao, here we come...

When we reach, we were greeted by a uninterested teenager, the worker there, the shop looks run down, its in a mess you gotta see it to believe it... a few miserable rims stacking on top of each other on display, tires flooded the shop leaving oni a small passage the width of a man to enter, the passage was lined with all the unwanted lugs. No one was to to offer any form of service.
We started the ball rolling by asking "How much" pointing to juz 1 rim... The worker replied "Dunno, ask boss" pointing inside the shop.
So we went in, the boss was on the phone, busy entertaining an indian guy, which seem to be collecting old tires from him. The boss seemed more interested dealing with him than us.

Well, b4 we came, we haf already heard bout ah siao's attitude so we were more of less prepared. After he dealt with the non customer indian guy, my fren again point to the rim(15') and ask him... "how much". He juz glance and said "$350".
We were like wah... "erm... 1 set ah, got include tires?"
AS: Plus tires $400...

Wow... this guy is really crazy.

Then my fren ask about 16"... without even shown the design... AS said plus tires $500.
WTF? 16" rims + tires at $500????

That really got desmond interested. He ask to look at the rim. AS went into the messy store and appear with a box. Upon opening the box... it was the exact rim Desmond shortlisted at the other shop.
After showing desmond the rim, AS proceed to remove 1 of the wheels on desmond's car and left the car stranded on a portable jack and went off to busy himself again.... incredible...

Finally after a long wait for dunno what... he appeared with a tire - Dunlop Formula 1. Wat tire is that?! The tires he quote in the price were so called new tires... off new cars that were traded in to him... To be fair, the thread does look new but god knows how long were the tires there already...

After desmond decided to take up the deal, it was till then did AS started to rammage through his challenging shop in bid of the treasure hunt to find the other 3 rims. Its really amusing to see how he run the business.... It was pure entertainment.

I and patson were then feeling thirsty, and PLANNED on goin to the shell along the place to get some drinks and here's the best part...

Me: Ah siao, 你要不要喝?
AS: OK, 我要milo.
Me: eh, 我去shell买leh... 冷的可以吗?
AS: 我要milo, 烧的, 冷的我不喝。 对面有kopitiam...

Can you believe it?????

Back to the shop, workmanship wasn't anything to brag about, service not much to comment but AS wasn't rude at all... juz weird and not focus.

In the end, desmond's turn to get fleeced.... haha he got to pay $65 for the lugs... Lugs not included... wahaha. So total damage including 3% for credit card payment - $580, still cheap. Its like buy 4 rims, free 4 tires.... haha. Its definately an experience. After desmond paid up, we got into the car ready to leave, NOW AS started toking to us on and on and on and on holding on to the door. ARGH.

Conclusion: If you are looking for a damn cheap deal, dun mind wateva tires, wateva service, got PLENTY of time on hand, wan some entertainment, not much expectation of worksmanship, and wun get waver from the appearance of the shop. Ah Siao is the one!!!!

Little Possum

Recently Reis love to pretend to fall asleep on the way home in the car... and she does it damn well!!

She did it again yesterday... while on the way home, she again pretended to fall asleep in my mum's arms... we all knew this was her stunt recently. So after i parked, mum told me to carry Reis... While switching from my mum to my arms, we jerk a little, There's totally no expression on reis' face. Even my mum was a little unsure whether she's pretending anot.
So i say a little stuff to try to make her laugh, shake her abit... totally expressionless.... we were convinced that she really fell asleep this time. Went back home, did everything hush hush, prep her bed, arrange the pillows, switch on the air-con, kept the room lights off and lastly gave her a gd night peck. She still looks fast asleep. I went out of her room quietly and told cadis to keep her voice down...
My mum carry on doin some stuff in the room, as she's about to leave the room:

Reis: Nai nai, i thought you wana change clothes for me? (totally awake, not those kind of sleepy face or voice)

Totally scared the daylights out of my mum....

Fleeced

I juz opened my electricity bill... WTH!! A whopping $579!!!! i know electricity went up... but by this much?? knnbccb @#$%%^&

Still stoned....

Its been 2 days since my fever and i still yet to recover fully... damn irritated. Which means no form of exercising at all.... Appetite hasn't gotten any better too... met Dragon, jaline, nouvelle and leraine for dinner at popeye's sg flyer last night... didn't enjoy the food 1 bit, in fact felt nausea after the meal... But its been a long time since i had dinner with Dragon and family... the crowd was like 4 adults and 3 little gals and a infant... so one shd expect that dinner wasn't totally a breeze. Reis and cadis were a quite managable last night, maybe due to the fact that they grew a little, nouvelle was quite cranky and cried a fair bit. When we left, i went over to the coffee counter and ask the waiter :

me: Eh got kids yet?
waiter: nope
me: Phobia liao rite... haha

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After work yesterday, drop by BikeHaus off 6th ave to get to know a little more bout mountain bikes. the guy there William was a great help, friendly, willing to share. Taught me the basic stuff of wat's wat... and did some recommendation.
I'm still not sure if i would buy one, coz there's reallly no storage ways at home. But if i do, this is now shortlisted right at the top of my list.

The weekly planned run

Its the weekly run for the runners again...
This time we finally tried the vivo -> WCM route.(the one in my previous post) Took a bus there, its been at least 8 yrs since i last took a bus, nuthin seemed diff, same peak hrs, same bus models, same crowded bus, same slow crawling pace... oni diff is that they uses Ezi Link instead od TransitLink...

Back to topic, we alighted, started our run off at sentosa gateway junction, ran past vivo, harbourfront, carribean, pasir panjang rd, haw par villa, west coast car mart all the way to WCM... I quite enjoy running urban, the diff buildings, streets, roads seem to take one's mind off the distance and you could juz ke
ep running and running. Downside is the amount of traffic lights which sort of disrupt the pace and the carbon monoxide + dust from the constuctions along pasir panjang...

I'm glad we finally got to run this route, but it will the first and the last. Too much trouble and time taken to get there... + the traffic lights... So next
week we will conquer another route...

Runners this session: Siswi, OMP, Paul, Mingkiat, Vincent and me...
Total distance: Approx 8km

Sumptious Sailing

Main highlight of this sailing is our planned high-capital supper...
We, the supper club (which consist of Boss, leonard, paul, zhiwei, moses, don, chee peng, melvin, kelvin and me) always had our 'normal' supper at 8pm. After us, was the midnight club. They will cook their share after we cooked ours due to timing. (thats y they are called the midnight club).

We were always the one fussier over food and thinking of new things to conjure up and things were ok till.... the midnight club decided to spoil market and do some 'HO LIAO'. They haf stingray, cockles etc....

So to level up to retain supper club's pole position, we blew it up bigger!!!

This was wat we had...... TA DA!!

Paul, me, moses and kelvin

We bought
-1.5kg of prawns, cooked it in sambal, and a small portion we fry it in butter for dipping in wasabi style.
-God knows how much sotong we bought (sambal fried too)
-many many pieces of stingray
-snow fish fillet (pan fried in teriyaki sauce)
-salmon fish fillet (pan fried in teriyaki sauce too)
-salmon sashimi
-jellyfish
-jap octopus
-topshell

and plenty of coke light... total damage: approx. $130

It was a slight overdose of great sambal (compliments of Don's granny)

And here are some more pics i took...
Dawn...

And some pics of rainbows....

I took the pic of this vessel becoz its not sumthing i see everyday....

So there are some projects we do to beautify our living quarters... here are afew examples...

Moses' bunk...

After seeing his, also got me motivated to decorate my bunk... nuthin special for putting babes, juz nuthin else decorates the bunk better... (all are prim and proper pics, nuthin obscene)

Outside sports @ ECP

Went to east coast today for sports with my ship crew...
Event: Cycling.

Its been a gd 9 years since i really cycled, never cycle since i got my class 2B... well, our crew suggested cycling and there we are... cycling @ ECP. Rent a mountain bike for 3 hrs... initial plan was to cycle from Mac to NSRCC. I told boss it was too short a route to be a meaningful session but they weren't convinced.

BTW boss and leonard brought their own bikes along --> pros... We all started cycling towards NSRCC, there were like 20+ bikes... when we reached checkpoint, oni a pathetic 7 remains. I was WTF!! How shag can cycling be?! So the unfulfiling 7 decides that we shd press on to continue riding to changi village. So we proceed, as we ride, hunger, thirst and bum burn slowly overcame us and the rain came rite on time to gif us a good reason to turn back, by then we were already at changi beach park.

We turn ard, headed back and aim to get to the hawker center for a drink, cannot imagine how painful can cycling do to the bum... OSIM shd invent seats for bikes. When we struggle to the hawker center, legs were already wobbly, and we walked as if everyone contracted piles. We rested awhile while poor leonard grabbed some food b4 he die from hunger. When we finally make a move from the hawker, the bum hurts even more, so i derive a theory --> When you torture your bum, go all the way, it doesn't pay to be kind to it...

Finally returned the bike after a gd 3hrs+... total distance covered: approx +- 30km. I simple love the feeling of being totally shag. Its satisfactory...
Boss and leonard along the whole journey was trying to poison me into buying my own bike taking up the role of the devil while siswi and OMP were dissuading me from buying (the angels).

I gotta admit after the cycling i was quite interested in getting one but do i really wan it? or isit juz at the spur of the moment. Do i haf kakis to continue cycling? and storage is a major problem... too many factors... and spending afew grand for a bike... hmm.... modding my car seems more practical... but its different.

well i searched the web for bikes and saw afew which caught my eye... for ppl who knows me... its always looks over functionality as a priority.... but i guess the ones i chose weren't too bad either...

The Scott Aspect 10

Scott Ransom

Gary Fisher Piranha

Cannondale Rush Carbon 3

Cannondale Moto Carbon 2

The cannondale ones sure look pricey... gotta really think it over, cycling is sumthing very new to me, i mean i know how to cycle, but cycling as a serious sport?? I'm not sure yet...
